A Changing Marmaris

Marmaris, a lovely little fishing village, has been the focus of attention by the domestic tourists who have discovered the beauty of its nature over time.
Fishing, sea sponge, marble industry and agriculture, was once the livelihood of the region. In the 70′s in Marmaris, orange groves, mandarin and orange orchards were plentiful. During our childhood we used to run in pursuit of balls with the neighborhood children on vacant plots, and play hide and seek in the trees.
During the 80′s marmaris was becoming the focus of attention by domestic tourists and one of the major centres of tourism. Back then, set amongst small areas of greenery in the region there were home pensions that became quite popular because it offered visitors a warm and friendly home atmosphere. The host of the home pension keeps one room to themselves while offering the other rooms of the house and the common use of the kitchen and bathroom to guests.
Over time, with this increased interest in Marmaris, hotels began being constructed next to the home pension businesses. The sea was crystal clean and the beaches quiet in the nearby counties where days were lived to its fullest.
Everything was more clear, clean, innocent and natural in the past Marmaris.
During the 80′s in Marmaris, other than the Marmaris Municipality and Marmaris Bazaar the rear sections of Marmaris, there were many vacant plots. Construction had not begun yet.
In 90′s began the increased interest of foreign tourists to Marmaris. For this reason, the interest in the advancement for hotel accommodation facilities once, turned to the apart hotel model. In a short period of time furnished apartments with kitchen equipment and furniture replaced the vacant plots were multiplying.
Foreign agencies in the region brought in foreign tourists, especially British tourists which made it instrumental in the development of the regions economy. In the beginning the Finnish tourists had much interest in Marmaris however due to the climate changes and increasing hot temperatures, it affected the holidays of the visiting Finnish tourists.
The 90′s were the booming years of Marmaris. There was great interest in local and foreign tourists of all nationalities in Marmaris, hence became a popular name among the tourism centers in Turkey. The all Inclusive system had not yet been in place in Marmaris, so the merchants were all quite happy for the way business was going
The real estate sector gained momentum in Marmaris and many foreign guests who spent their holidays here decided to extend their vacation time to 12 months by settling in Marmaris.
Marmaris has always been in the center for rental property as it has always been in demand. Rental property has always been a problem as it has been difficult to find the desired property to rent. Over time new districts such as Armutalan, Siteler, Beldibi, Icmeler, were built in the region opening more units for the demand in rental property, bringing Marmaris to a population of about 73,000 today.
The image of the old city as a small fishing village has now reached a different identity.
Marmaris is now more popular, more modern, more crowded, the number of the residential population has increased, and has become a preferred tourist destination worldwide.
